Group Yoga Classes

So much has happened already in the first half of 2020, it is hard to keep up. The world as we know it has changed, and we have hardly had the time to process what that even means. For me personally it has brought huge changes to the very concept of how I earn my livelihood. While I was forced to make a 'quick pivot' back in March to continue to offer classes via audio downloads to students registered for my Spring session, I have had a little more time to pause and ponder how I could best serve our yoga community going forward. Knowing how essential self-care has been to my overall well-being these past few months, I have created this brand new, multi-faceted course offering below, to help you take good care of yourself and be better able to navigate these stressful times. Whether you are a current student, a former student or a potential new student in search of a unique yoga experience, I look forward to connecting with you through this course!

Upcoming Summer Course

Soothing Yoga for Stressful Times

9 Week Multi-Faceted Course: July 6 - September 5, 2020

Audio + Video + Outdoors + Online

Put the screens away, close your eyes and turn your focus inward as you are expertly guided through this series of 9 audio classes (1 per week) to soothe your psyche in these stressful times. At your convenience and in the comfort of your own home, immerse yourself in yoga sequences for Anxiety, Insomnia, Neck & Shoulder Tension and more. We will move, breathe, meditate, slow down our thoughts and practice present moment awareness. Learn new tools and cultivate healthy habits to navigate these stressful times. Choose to stream (Christy's) Hatha or Vinyasa sequences or (Christina's) Yin sequences.

Are you more of a visual learner? Or maybe you'd like a little variety? Enjoy a *NEW* Video Library of Christy's classes (Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin) and meditations, for all registered students to use at their convenience during the 9-week course. New videos will be added frequently, and will include sequences from the Soothing Yoga for Stressful Times course and more.

Miss seeing your yoga community in person and having your teacher keep a good eye on your form? Let’s try out some outdoor pool-side yoga classes in my backyard! Spaces will be limited for social-distancing purposes. Available to all registered students, but you must reserve a spot in advance. Be on the look-out for announcements of these *pop-up* classes throughout this 9-week course.

Cultivating Compassion in Challenging Times
I have been waiting for my chance to channel Oprah and her Super Soul Sunday series, and here it finally is! ;) I am so excited to offer registered students a chance to learn from my own spiritual teacher, John Earle, during this course. Each week, John will be offering a ½ hour inspirational talk and meditation practice via Zoom. You can join live and have the ability to interact with John directly, or you can listen to the recording of each workshop at your convenience from a shared Dropbox folder. Topics include Awareness, Personal Responsibility, Inner Work, Action and more. Read more about John and this weekly online course here.

Great for beginners and those wanting a more mellow practice.

Gradually increase strength and flexibility while relieving stress and tension. AM Hatha: A more energizing class to help wake you up and set a positive tone for your day. PM Hatha: A calming, slower-paced class to help you unwind at the end of your day.

Best for students in good physical condition or with prior yoga experience.

Ann Arbor's Original Vinyasa! This alignment-enhanced style of Vinyasa offers a practice that is fluid and fun, but at the same time safe and sustainable. Increase your strength, flexibility and memory in this heat-building style by learning the sequence and then flowing on your own!

Good for all levels, especially those wanting a great stretch.

Yin Yoga has been coined the "quiet practice". A variety of leg, hip, back and shoulder stretches are held for 3-5 minutes in an attempt to go deep into the muscles and connective tissue of the body. Use breath and awareness as tools to cultivate mindfulness and deep relaxation.

I have been practicing yoga with Christy for over 13 years and I can say that I have learned more about yoga and grown more as a human in that time period than I ever would have imagined.

Jessie C.

Christy's attention to mindfulness is something I particularly appreciate and her style that incorporates teaching students about yoga principles in practice reinforces the instruction.

Kellie M. R.

I love the personal attention and Christy's teaching style, which recognizes that everyone comes to class with a different intention. Oh, and the studio is GORGEOUS.

Sadie W.

Thanks to [Christy], I've become stronger, more flexible, and more mindful, both on and off the mat. Christy is kind, supportive, and knowledgeable. She challenges me to deepen my practice, but only at my own pace.

Kelly R.

Of all the yoga teachers I’ve had, I’ve found your approach to be the most supportive and have recommended you to several friends, who now happily take your classes as well.

Stephen N.

I have been taking Christy’s classes for 12 years now and haven’t missed a session. I feel invigorated and whole when I leave Vinyasa or any class!

Jen W.

Christy’s new studio is incredibly warm and inviting. The small class sizes always make it feel more intimate and personalized. I couldn’t recommend this studio more!

Tim W.

For me, your classes help me to curb my anxiety, charge my battery, think clearly, react appropriately, be courageous without being rude or offensive, and strengthen my muscles.

Lori B.

Christy’s “Yoga Room” is unique and genuine. Classes are small and the environment supportive and welcoming. It is indeed a quiet refuge. [Christy’s] teaching style is informative and accommodating.

Dave R.

[Christy] is simply a lovely person, a qualified instructor and a centering influence on the mat. This is a special place. And I feel special when I am there.

Andrea B.

I went to The Yoga Room for five years before moving and I can say, hands down, it’s the best yoga studio I’ve ever had the privilege to Vinyasa at!

Megan A.

[Christy] makes you feel comfortable no matter your ability or skill level. The hour I am doing yoga, I feel like I am far away from everything. I leave in a better state of mind.

On A Budget?

I usually post this picture in a fun, light-hearted way--but times are different now and I know many people's financial situations have changed due to COVID-19. I don't want anyone to miss out on my Soothing Yoga For Stressful Times course because of financial constraints, so if you are unable to afford it at this time please contact me to work something out. I am particularly a fan of barters and often need help with things like gardening, office admin work, IT, graphic design, etc.
