2nd chakra

Balancing Your Sensual 2nd Chakra

December 29, 2022 //  by Christy

In anticipation of my upcoming Journey Through the Chakras Live+Virtual course that begins January 9, and my Chakra Mini Retreat on February 18, I recently shared a blog post, How to Balance Your Root Chakra. Once you’ve cleared blockages and cultivated that stable foundation at your 1st Chakra you’re ready to move along in your journey and balance your 2nd Chakra.

The 2nd (Sacral) Chakra is located above the tailbone, in the area between the hip bones, or center of the pelvis. The physical body parts associated with it are the hips, glutes, sacrum, lower back, reproductive system, bladder and kidneys. (So any imbalances in our physical health in any of these areas could be worked on by focusing on 2nd Chakra postures.) The Sanskrit name for this Chakra, Svadhisthana, is translated to mean ‘one’s own place or base,’ and includes the Sanskrit verb Svadha, which means ‘to sweeten.’ So a balanced 2nd Chakra allows you to be comfortable expressing your emotions, sensuality, and sexuality. It is involved in intimacy, relationships, and your ability to go with the flow. Once you are comfortable with those aspects of yourself, you can then be more open to pleasure: being more creative, relaxed and receptive.

However, many of us hold a lot of tension and resistance in our body and mind, so when I teach 2nd Chakra yoga practices they are full of dynamic poses that we flow in and out of with the breath, as well as nice stretches for the hips (a place where we hold a lot of stress and emotional ‘baggage’), inner thighs and groin muscles. And as always, strengthening poses for the glutes, which are so important for good hip health.

Check out this video clip below for some 2nd Chakra area dynamic yoga poses and stretching–and see if you don’t feel a little more relaxed and able to go with the flow afterwards!

Learn how to leverage the ancient wisdom of the Chakras in your yoga practice by joining me for my upcoming Chakra Mini Retreat on Saturday, February 18, 1-4pm. More details on my Events page. Sign up soon; spaces are filling!

Namaste

“The success of yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
