Ether

September 9, 2012 //  by Christy

The theme for our September-October class session here at The Yoga Room is The Five Elements.  We began the session this week focusing on the element Ether.

Ether is the prime element latent in all things, providing space and balance for all elements to unfold.  Ether is essential to our sense of connectedness with Spirit and the Divine.  In the body ether is space, particularly in the chest, neck and joints, so our asana practice this week focused on many postures that opened up the neck and throat, as well as increasing circulation in our joints, particularly the shoulders and hips.

When the ether element is out of balance, we have problems with our breathing, joint pain, and difficulties expressing ourselves.  Lack of ether is connected with the feeling of grief and separateness. Balanced ether promotes our sense of joy, union and well-being.

Namaste

“The success of yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
