The pool is open, which means it’s time for Aqua Yoga! Private Aqua Yoga sessions take place in the heated pool adjacent to my Ann Arbor, MI yoga studio during the warm weather months, June through September. With pool season underway, I thought I would take the opportunity to share a list of some of the many benefits of Aqua Yoga. Here they are, in no particular order:
- Beneficial for those with joint pain to improve strength, flexibility and range of motion
- Great way to rehabilitate after hip, knee, shoulder (or other joint) surgery
- Working with the resistance of the water helps improve balance and stability
- The variety of Aqua Yoga poses and exercises work your muscles in new ways
- Buoyancy reduces weight on joints and decompresses the spine
- (Therefore, it’s also) a wonderful form of prenatal exercise
- It’s a fun way for friends to share a unique experience together
- The change in environment from yoga studio to pool is stimulating for the brain
- Yoga poses that are challenging on land are way more accessible in the pool
- There is something very therapeutic, nourishing and de-stressing about being in water
- Floating Savasana is one of the best forms of self-care there is :)
Anyone can do Aqua Yoga. As long as you can get into a pool, you can enjoy this fun, light-hearted form of yoga. If you’re looking for a unique way to cool off this summer, view the details here and book your Aqua Yoga session with me soon. Summer is fleeting!
