The Water Element

September 30, 2012 //  by Christy

This past week we focused on the Water Element in our yoga classes here at The Yoga Room. Our water energy is where we store our deepest emotions: thus, while it can create our deepest energetic blockages, it is also where we can find our best connections to our energetic and emotional self.

The water element and the parasympathetic nervous system respond to the condition of each other. The PNS governs our bodies’ ability to relax, and thus to recover and heal from physical and emotional stresses. Once this relaxed state is induced, we have better access to the side of water energy that enables our creativity, our receptivity to new experiences and ideas, and a broader understanding of our world and ourselves. These qualities of water are the foundation of our ability to nurture ourselves and others, to trust, and to transform ourselves and our ideas.

You may notice problems in your water energy first as feelings of any kind of creative block, mistrust, confusion, or selfishness. You may feel unable to “go with the flow” or you may have given so much of yourself that you feel empty or depleted. Water is where we store our deepest sadness and traumas, and blocked water energy brings these experiences up to the surface.

Water energy governs our feet and reproductive organs, and its flow is directly related to the healthy function of our heart and sacral chakras. Therefore, many physical symptoms across the chest and hips are related to the quality of our water energy.

Namaste

“The success of yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
