A big THANK YOU to all of you who took the time to fill out the survey I sent out a couple months ago. I thought I’d share some of the results with you…
Many of you said the reason that you take yoga classes here as opposed to other studios is because you love the atmosphere — small class sizes, a cozy space, and an intimate ‘family’ feel where you get to know your fellow students. There were also several remarks about the caring, knowledgeable instructors! :)
The favorite session theme from the past year was ‘Moving Into Meditation,’ followed closely by (and in a near dead-heat with one another) ‘Spring Cleaning for Body, Mind & Spirit,’ ‘Journey Through the Chakras,’ and ‘Yoga for Core Strength & Balance.’
Some things that students wished were different: A handful of you requested more corrections, feedback and hands-on adjustments in classes so you know whether or not you’re doing postures correctly. Duly noted by all Yoga Room teachers! If you don’t feel like you’re getting enough still, however, please let us know in person. Some people like corrections and adjustments while others like to just be left alone, so it’s helpful for you to tell your teacher which category you fall into. Some people also mentioned things like the space being a little cramped, dark and carpeted. I can’t do much about these things at this point, but some day Yoga Room 2.0 will hopefully address these issues. :) In the meantime, a few people noted that it would be helpful if students across from each other staggered their mats. I wholeheartedly agree but rarely remember to remind people, so if you’re reading this please help me remember when you come to one of my bigger classes!
Many of you said you’re interested in deepening your yoga practice through workshops and semi-private sessions (especially on the topics of Meditation, Yoga Fundamentals, Core Strengthening, Back Strengthening for Posture Improvement & Muscle Release ‘Block Party’), Immersion programs and retreats (1-day or weekend and local within MI). The majority prefers attending workshops on Saturday mornings or afternoons as opposed to during the week.
If there is a topic that you have a real interest in, please let us know in person. Just last week someone mentioned how great it would be to have all the chakra classes as audio sessions. This had been in the back of my mind for a while now but I’d been procrastinating about it. Well guess what? Because this person asked me in person and told me how much she would enjoy it, that has moved up to the top of my to-do list! More details on that coming soon.
In the meantime, thank you all again for your feedback. And please don’t hesitate to offer more in person or via email. It’s always helpful to know what you’re thinking and, while we can’t please everyone all the time, we always do strive to give you a quality yoga class every time you are here!
