A Covid-19 Update for Yoga Room Students

March 15, 2020 //  by Christy

Dear Yoga Room Community,

I hope you are staying healthy through these times of uncertainty and challenge due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I’ve talked to many of you around the studio this past week and been in touch with others via text and email about plans for the studio during this time.

Our collective health and well-being is my top priority, and based on everything I’ve read, recommendations from Yoga Alliance and many days of deliberation, I have decided that it is in everyone’s best interest to suspend classes at the studio until the need for social isolation has passed. As we have all probably heard, it is of the utmost importance to slow the spread of the virus so that the number of people who need hospital services remains in the range that our health care system can supply. Strict social isolation for EVERYONE is the best strategy. That means if you do not need to go out for a critical purpose, do not. Although this may seem extreme, I think it is better to be safe than sorry as we have not reached the peak of the crisis yet in the U.S.

I know that everyone still needs their yoga practice, especially at a time like this. To that end, in lieu of you coming to the studio for a class each week that we are socially isolating, I will be creating new audio sessions based on our Spring Cleaning themes for each week, and emailing them to everyone registered for this session. My plan at the moment is to have separate sessions for both Hatha and Vinyasa recorded by yours truly, and separate sessions for Yin recorded by Christina. That way it will be as close to coming to an actual class as possible, without the head, neck and shoulder massages–which we wouldn’t be giving you now anyway. I encourage you to try to stick to your yoga routine as much as possible and do the sessions during your normal class time each week.

I am also available for private Facetime or Skype sessions, for anyone who might be interested.

I trust that everyone will understand the reasons for my decision, and know that I did not make it lightly. We are all in this together, and we all need to keep each other safe. Even I feel the temptation to want to keep my daily life as normal as possible, but I believe we all have an obligation to help slow the spread of this virus. To that end, I implore you to please think critically before leaving your home, and limit it to that which is absolutely necessary. If we all do our part, we will actually be saving lives. I will continue to stay up-to-date with information and keep you updated as needed. Please reach out if you have any questions.

“The success of yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”
