Beautiful weather, fall colors, peaceful surroundings, bald eagle sightings, a bonfire under the stars, daily yoga, good food and lovely company. These were the highlights of my annual Yoga + Self-Care Weekend this year. And to think it almost didn’t happen because my husband got COVID! Close readers of my blog will remember a recent post entitled 3 Takeaways From My Recent Trips to the Hospital. About nine days after recovering from a flukey illness, my husband’s compromised immune system was in no shape to fight off the COVID virus. That meant that, just ten days before my Yoga + Self-Care Weekend, I had to do everything in my power to avoid getting the virus from him so I wouldn’t have to cancel the retreat. It was super-stressful and overwhelming, but I did indeed manage to stay COVID-free. (Special shout-out to the friend who brought us food, and the student who let me stay at her house for a few days while she was on vacation so I could keep away from my husband’s germs!) Needless to say, a weekend of self-care was just what I needed at the end of that ordeal. Instead of me writing more about the retreat’s highlights, I asked others who attended to share some of their own:
“Thanks again for such a lovely weekend! Between yoga, walks, a bonfire, shooting stars, good conversation, and nurturing food, I left more relaxed and rejuvenated than when I arrived. I’m so grateful for the generous gift of this retreat to connect to myself, my rhythms and desires. I’m already looking forward to next year!” – SH
“Once again, this retreat has acted as a moment for me to pause, focus internally and recommit to taking care of myself. Being able to return to in-person activities has rekindled a desire to connect with others, and the environment that the Inn at Rustic Gate provides helps us to connect with nature as well. Thank you again for organizing and facilitating this amazingly immersive moment of self-care and wellness! I look forward to this event each year.” -MG
“I feel such gratitude for the whole weekend- the incredible weather, the wonderful innkeepers and food, your artful guidance on the meditation walk, and of course your yoga classes are always what I need without knowing I need it! I hope you know how much you are appreciated. Thank you for making this happen for all of us. Hope to see everyone there next year.” – CH
